Dr. Deborah Peel and other participants in a 2001 study by the California Healthcare Foundation
produced a data map showing flows of health information about a hypothetical but typical patient.
Below is a reproduction as originally drafted. Like the Health Data Map 1997,
this map also shows representative, not comprehensive, descriptions of flows of health
information between organizations in a pre-HIPAA era based on ad hoc knowledge.
